A panoramic view of Mondo’s artistic life, this site aims to showcase Mondo’s unique ability as a costume designer while paying tribute to the artistic influences his varied experiences have on his work. A dancer first, Mondo found unexpected artistic satisfaction in the makeup and fashion industry upon his move to New York City. This eye for and love of design led him to explore styling for photography. He not only excelled as a photo stylist, but also behind the sewing machine to make the costumes his clients wore. This newfound skill easily guided him into the larger costume design world. He was quite literally thrust into the field; a minor wardrobe assistant job quickly turned into his first Costume Coordinator/Wardrobe Supervisor position at The Ailey School, followed by his current full time position at Marymount Manhattan College. For him, the steep learning curve only added momentum to his quick rise in the costume design field. Mondo is influenced by urban fashion and his love for the technical construction of design with fabric. His costumes flow easily with their movers on stage. He has an eye for catching the intricate patterns of a dancer’s steps and making a garment that will highlight and complement both the body and the choreography. Through his continued work as a makeup artist, photo stylist, and costume designer, Mondo strives to share to the New York community his love for creating magic. His dedication and tenacity can be seen in every stitch, stroke, and sketch. With 10 years of artist design behind him, Mondo can faithfully say that experience is the greatest of teachers.
